Why the Bleacher Banter? Because it's written by a Cub fan, for Cub fans, and is one of the only publications where the Cub fan's opinion counts.

The first Bleacher Banter "issue" was published ten years ago as a single page dedicated to Wilma Fields, a bleacher employee of the Cubs. The Cubs organization turned down a request to honor Wilma for 36 years of dedicated service stating, "If we did it for Wilma, we'd have to do it for everyone else." It was at then we decided to start the Bleacher Banter and dedicate it to Wilma on behalf of the "everyone else's" whose loyalty would never be recognized by the organization. Wilma has since passed away, but the Banter lives on.

The bi-monthly Bleacher Banter has grown from a single page "newsletter" to a 22-24 page "newspaper," the contents of which generally include:

  • Information regarding current and ex-Cubs
  • Whereabouts of former Cubs Signings, re-signings and trades; opinions regarding same
  • Front office moves
  • Bleacher Virgins and Visitors' Dugout (Wrigley Field's new and returning fans)
  • Names of new and renewing Banter members
  • Changes in Wrigley Field policies; opinions about those changes and changes the fans would like to see
  • Gossip column ("Inside Bitch") which includes tidbits about fans and players
  • Regular columnists (loyal devoted Cub fans like yourself) who write about anything and everything regarding the Cubs, the games, the players and the Tribune Company and their bean counters
  • Guest columnists (lengthy letters of interest to the Bleacher Banter are often turned into columns)
  • Interviews (Chip Caray and Steve Melendez (Asst. Training Coach) are two recent interviewees
  • News from other ballparks where the Cubs play, including American League parks
  • Bleacher Banter Chat Room which includes portions of letters and e-mails written by Bleacher Banter members (if you write, you will be published unless you request otherwise, or we lose a suitcase on a plane with your letter inside)
  • Birthday and anniversary greetings on the mailing page Discounts offered by publishers on Cub publications
  • And finally, as Pat Embry said, "Much much more than you've ever wanted to know about the Bleachers."
